ISL6402IR-TK is a kind of PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuit) produced by Renesas Electronics. It is a linear+switch mode voltage regulator that combines the advantages of both technologies. ISL6402IR-TK Working Principle

ISL6402IR-TK is a linear+switch mode voltage regulator that performs power management control based on pulse width modulation (PWM). The device operates with a stepless operating range, where the output voltage is variable depending on a reference voltage, typically set to a predefined level. The output voltage is then adjusted via the built-in error amplifier and PWM control circuit.

For the linear regulator mode, an external NPN transistor is used to convert input voltage to the reference voltage. As the voltage drops, the feedback control circuitry will cause the PWM controls to turn on, thus maintaining the preset output voltage.

The buck switching mode works similarly, but works in reverse direction. In this mode, the PWM control circuit turns on and off at a predetermined frequency. As the input voltage rises, the PWM control circuitry will cause the device to switch off, thus reducing the output voltage and maintaining the preset output voltage.

ISL6402IR-TK provides a number of protection features including over temperature protection, over current protection and short circuit protection. In addition, the device features versatile output control options which include standard voltage settings, programmable settings, hardware and software interface settings, and standby settings.
