ISL6539EVAL2 is an evaluation board designed to help customers evaluate the performanceof the ISL6539 Off-Line SMPS controller. The board demonstrates the features ofthis high efficiency synchronous Off-Line SMPS controller which incorporates InternalMOSFETs to minimize external components and save board space.This evaluation board works from a wide input line voltage of 90VAC - 290VAC andcan regulate an output voltage of 12V or 5V with a maximum load current of 7A, allowingfor a wide range of applications.Application fieldThe ISL6539EVAL2 board features a 2-phase current mode PFC preregulator withphase-shed functionality which allows it to operate over an input voltage range of 90VAto 290VAC. The ISL6539 controller is then used to operate in the CCM mode toregulate the output voltage of 12V or 5V to maximum current of 7A.The evaluation board also supports a wide range of external (AMC and IPM)applications such as AC/DC adapters, servers, gaming systems and others allowing theuser to undertake many different applications. The ISL6539EVAL2 can also be usedfor universal applications as the output voltage and current are adjustable withsimple potentiometers. Additionally, there are multiple test points and protectionfeatures such as Over Voltage protection, Short Circuit protection, Over Temperatureprotection, Soft startup and Brownout protection available on the board.Working principleThe ISL6539EVAL2 evaluation board uses two separate synchronous buck convertersto provide the required output voltage and current. The first synchronous buckconverter is referred to as the PFC (Power Factor Correction) converter, and it isdesigned to convert a wide range of AC mains inputs into a DC voltage with very lowripple.The second synchronous buck converter is referred to as the DC/DC converter, and ituses the PFC output voltage to produce a regulated output voltage at a certain currentlimit.
