ISL6554CB is a special purpose, fixed frequency, off-line power factor correction (PFC) controller IC that uses the flyback topology. It is designed to provide high power factor, low total harmonic distortion (THD), and high efficiency for high-voltage, low-power AC to DC converters. The device is suitable for a variety of input ranges, including medium line power systems. The ISL6554CB features programmable peak currentmode/SenseFET control, which has low gate drive requirements, as well as overcurrent protection and short-circuit protection.

Features

The ISL6554CB features a line-connected direct PFC controller IC that supports isolated and non-isolated flyback topologies. It is designed to operate with a wide range of input voltages and has single-channel differential sensing for both input current and output voltage. The primary parameters, including VCC, switching frequency, and current sense resistors, are all programmable via a serial interface, making customization easy and efficient. The IC also includes readback capability of both input and output voltages as well as peak current sense (ICSENSE) and inductor current information to aid in system characterisation. In addition to its programmability, the ISL6554CB offers a number of protection features, including over-voltage protection, over-current protection, and current limit protection with hiccup mode. It also offers an active valley switching technique which minimizes ringing, reducing EMI and improving system reliability. The device is available in 16-pin HTSSOP packages and operates over the extended -40°C to +85°C temperature range.

Basic Operating Principle

The ISL6554CB is an off-line power factor correction (PFC) controller IC that uses the flyback topology.
