The ISL6559EVAL2 evaluation board is an essential part of the Intersil Corporation\'s portfolio of DC/DC and AC/DC (off-line) SMPS solutions. The ISL6559EVAL2 produces a primary, positive or negative output voltage at a maximum of 75V and a synchronous rectified secondary output voltage in the range of 1.8V-24V with an output current up to 3A. In the two-stage topology, the ISL6559 PWM controller and synchronous driver are connected to the Intersil OASISLF-75-850 power transformer.

The ISL6559EVAL2 board also has on-board current limit protection, on-board temperature limit protection, on-board soft start, and voltage feed-back sensing and control. The ISL6559EVAL2 board is designed to provide a range of diagnostic indicators including power good signal, isolated open-drain fault signal, and remote sense signal.

The ISL6559 uses a single-pulse width modulation (PWM) controller providing precise current limit for external power MOSFETs. The ISL6559 implements a two-stage PWM for current limiting member control based on maximum power dissipation and MOSFET overheating protection. The PWM controller also includes a fault latch which triggers the power good signal once a fault occurring and latches it off until the fault is cleared.

The ISL6559EVAL2 board includes the Intersil OASISLF-75-850 Toroidal power transformer. This Ferrite-core power transformer is rated for 75V and provides the necessary isolation characteristics and voltage stepdown or isolation for the ISL6559EVAL2. The low parasitic EMI and high efficiency also minimize total power losses.
