The ISL91108IINZ-T is a DC-DC switch mode current-mode pulse width modulation (PWM) regulator, being part of a family of ICs that provide wide input voltage, output voltage and output current capabilities along with multiple features for high performance power supply design, making it ideal for use in industrial, telecom, server and computing applications.
The ISL91108IINZ-T power management IC (PMIC) controls switch mode regulators by integrating the control circuit, power switches, sense resistors and status feedback, driving an external N-channel power MOSFET between the input voltage source and the output voltage rail. It also contains various functional blocks such as current mode control circuit, power switch, oscillator, logic drivers and dead-time control, allowing the building of a simple, compact and cost effective power supply design with only a few external components.
The working principle of the device is based on the current-mode PWM control which provides fast transient response and improved line and load regulation. The current mode architecture also provides a stable loop without the need for an external compensation network. The PWM signal drives the power switch at its switching frequency, typically 600kHz, resulting in a square wave current through the inductor and synchronous primary side FET. This square wave current is averaged by the output capacitor and provides a regulated voltage at the output.
