Working Principle

The ISL91132IIMZ-T is a high-performance, high-efficiency, low running power DC/DC switching regulator. It features an ultra-low dropout operated in a continuous conduction mode (CCM) with adjustable and fixed voltage output options. In CCM the output voltage is set by the combination of the output resistor and the output capacitor. As a result, the output ripple is greatly reduced, thus allowing the supply design to achieve high system efficiency. The output voltage is continuously monitored and held within a 0.25% accuracy even when the load current is changed. The switching frequency can be adjusted from 400KHz to 2MHZ and the integrated power sequencing controller allows synchronous or asynchronous operation from one or more power supplies.

The chip also integrates a high voltage MOSFETs, Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) and Maximum Efficiency Control (MEC) circuitry to increase the efficiency of the overall system, while the external bandwidth control allows further optimization of the dynamic transient response to the load current. Furthermore, the integrated switching loss compensation offers maximum efficiency and improved frequency response.

The ultra-low power shutdown mode helps save the system power during sleep mode and the thermal shutdown helps protect the part against excessive temperatures. The chip is designed to meet strict EMI and noise requirements and is fully characterized for operation up to 85 °C.
