Motion Sensors - Gyroscopes

The ITG-3400 is a three-axis MEMS gyroscope used for motion sensing applications. The device contains three single-axis MEMS gyroscopes aligned in orthogonal axes to measure the angular rate of the Rotating Frame of Reference (RFR) or the gyroscopic angular rate around each axis. The ITG-3400 is capable of measuring rates of up to 1000dps (degrees per second) with a maximum resolution of 0.8 degrees per second.

Application Field of ITG-3400

The ITG-3400 is widely used in motion tracking and motion sensing applications. The device is suitable for applications such as virtual reality simulations, mobile phone navigation, and robotics. Other uses include gaming controllers, motion gesture recognition, and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) stabilization.

The ITG-3400 is also used in aircrafts and helicopters as an inertial navigation system (INS). It helps in maintaining the aircraft\'s course in a range of conditions including turbulence and wind-related factors. The gyroscope can be used in combination with a magnetometer to estimate the aircraft\'s attitude and position relative to the inertial frame of reference.

Working Principle of ITG-3400

The ITG-3400 consists of three orthogonal MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical Systems) gyroscopes, each measuring angular rate around a given axis. The angular rate is measured as a voltage generated by a vibrating Coriolis mass.

When angular rate is applied to the vibrating mass, it forces the mass out-of-plane and generates a Coriolis force perpendicular to the plane of vibration. This force is converted into an electrical signal, which is then converted to a voltage.

The device is constructed using advanced MEMS technology and is designed to measure angular rate in applications up to a maximum of 1000dps (degrees per second) with a resolution of 0.8 degrees per second.

The ITG-3400 is also characterized by excellent temperature stability, low noise performance and small package size. The packaged size in combination with the accuracy and sensitivity of the device makes it a suitable choice for a wide range of motion sensing and control applications.
