Fuses are an integral part of any circuit protection system. In particular, JKS-2 applications and operations are based on a fusing principle to protect against overcurrent and overload conditions.The JKS-2 application uses two special application fuses. The first is a fast blow fuse which is an overcurrent protection device. It\'s purpose is to break the circuit when a high current flows. This fuse is designed to open very quickly when an overload is detected and before severe damage to equipment occurs. The second type of safety fuse used in JKS-2 applications is a time delay fuse. This fuse is designed to open when an overcurrent is detected, but it delays the opening of the circuit for a short time, allowing it to continually cycle up and down in current. The delay time helps to ensure that short-term current events do not cause circuits to open. JKS-2 works together with an overcurrent protective device (OCPD) such as a circuit breaker. The OCPD monitors the circuit\'s current and, when it detects an overload, it trips the circuit breaker. The OCPD is a tripable device which prevents the circuit from reaching a dangerous level.When the OCPD trips, the current is interrupted and the JKS-2 provides the current interruption in the form of a fast blow fuse. When overload occurs, the fast blow fuse will open quickly to protect sensitive components from being damaged. When the circuit is tripped, the time delay fuse will also open, providing additional protection against momentary current spikes.The fuse and OCPD are an effective team in the protection of circuits against overcurrent and overloads.
