Electrical, Specialty Fuses are an important safety feature of many electrical systems. This type of fuse has an increasing “B” curve trip time versus current, giving it an exponential overcurrent protection characteristics. This helps by providing an extended time-delay for short-term overcurrents, while still providing fast protection against sustained, overcurrent events.

The working principle of the KCRS-B fuse is the same as all other fuses, but with the added feature of an extended time-delay. The wire-wrapped melts and opens the circuit when an overcurrent or overvoltage event occurs. This opens the circuit and prevents the circuit current from surpassing the rated current of the fuse, and damaging the protected component or system. Once the voltage or current event is removed, the wire-wrapped re-solidifies and brings the circuit back to its normal operating state.

The KCRS-B fuse is ideal for battery systems, such as those found in uninterruptible power supplies, telecommunications equipment, and emergency lighting systems. The B-Curve characteristics help prevent costly damages from overcurrents in these systems, while also providing fast protection for excessively long-term events. The short-term delay allows the system to operate properly without dropping out due to short-term over-current.

The KCRS-B fuse can also be used in high-current applications, such as rectifiers and power supplies. The increased trip time helps protect the system from excessive current faults, while the quick break and back-to-normal time helps reduce downtime. The increased protection provided from the KCRS-B fuse helps prevent expensive damages to these systems.
