KLU-800 products are a type of electrical specialty fuse used for medium voltage short circuit and overload protection in medium voltage power distribution systems and switchgear. The KLU-800 is a form-fit replacement for utility-style medium voltage fuses and is UL listed and CSA certified for medium voltage distribution systems and switchgear applications. KLU-800 products are designed and manufactured to meet IEEE and NEMA standards.

KLU-800 fuses are a time-delay, current-limiting fuse that is available in both a single- and three-pole configuration. The single-pole KLU-800 fuse is designed to protect a circuit that delivers power from a transformer when a fault occurs. The three-pole KLU-800 fuse is designed to protect a distriubtion circuit from high current transients.

KLU-800 products are available in a range of current ratings from 600A to 2200A, and voltage ratings from 8.2kV to 15kV. The KLU-800 fuse has a number of features that improve its application and operation, including a top-entry design that facilitates easy installation and removal, an integral arcing horn and captive rear-mounted pressure switch for open/close indication.

Working principle: Fuses act as a passive circuit element by protecting the circuit in the event of a fault current. When a fault current greater than the fuse\'s limitation rating flows, the fuse element melts, clearing the fault current from the circuit. Due to the low let-through current and good time delay, KLU-800 fuses are particularly well-suited for the protection of transformer feeders and distribution lines.

The KLU-800 is designed with an internal arc horn to safely redirect the arc into a safe arc chamber. The arc horn limits the amount of energy released within the fuse compartment, reducing the risk for personal injury and equipment damage. Additionally, the KLU-800 integrates an auxiliary switch to provide real-time indication of the status of the fuse, allowing personnel to quickly isolate a fault. The KLU-800 also includes a unique two-piece construction design which eliminates the need for bonding connections.

To ensure optimal safety and performance, the KLU-800 fuse is tested to UL, ANSI, NEMA, IEEE, and CSA standards, and is constructed with high-performance internal components with a thermal-magnetic trip curve. Additionally, the KLU-800 is also tested against high-rate, short-circuit current rush for open-air arc resistance.
