An KTK-2 fuse (also known as a the Kirov Time-Delay Fuse) is a form of high-voltage fuse. It is designed to protect medium and large generating-sets, as well as other big systems, from short-circuits and overloads. It is a current-limiting or time-delay fuse that will allow a certain amount of over-current to flow through the fuse before cooling down.

KTK-2 fuses are used to protect against short-circuit currents and to limit the maximum current that can enter or leave the system. They are composed of two elements, a coil spring and a heat-sensitive wire, designed to withstand a very large current before it melts. The melting of the wire is the main element of the protection, as the fuse will trip further downstream from where the current has exceeded a certain level. The fuse will remain in the open position until a manual reset is performed.

A KTK-2 fuse operates in three stages, in order to protect the system from getting damaged in cases of short-circuit and overload. The first stage is the initial trip, which happens when the current goes beyond the specified acceptable limits. At this stage, the element starts to drop resistance, and this suddenly reduces the current flowing through the system. The second stage is the final trip, where the coil spring starts to retract, and this reduces the current to a level low enough to secure the circuit from further damage. Lastly, the tripping process completes in the third stage when the coil spring reaches its maximum contraction, which indicates the complete trip of the fuse.

The basic difference between the conventional and the KTK-2 fuse lies in the time domain. The conventional fuse, upon being exposed to a short circuit or an overload, will trip immediately, whereas the KTK-2 fuse can be time-delayed, thus allowing a certain amount of overload to pass through before the fuse trips. This is done by the built-in thermosetting coilspring, which causes a delay in the time it takes for the fuse to trip.

The KTK-2 fuse is used in applications that require a high degree of overload protection. In these cases, the fuse can be used to protect the system from short circuits and device overloads. It is also used to protect large and medium-sized generating systems from overloads and short circuits, as well as to limit the maximum current entering or leaving the system.

In summary, the KTK-2 fuse is an essential device for providing an extra degree of protection in many electrical systems. Its time-delay feature can help reduce the risk of damage due to high current overloading, and its design ensures that the fuse trips in just the right amount of time, so the system can be protected from further damage. The KTK-2 fuse is an important electrical specialty fuse and should only be handled by a professionally certified electrician or technician in order to ensure the safety of the system.
