An inductor is an electronic component that stores energy in the form of an electromagnetic field when electric current passes through it in a circuit. Sometimes referred to as a ‘coil’, it is similar to an ordinary resistor, except that it has two conductor wires wrapped around a core material such as iron or ferrite. The inductor is a fundamental component in the construction of circuits, used in both analog and digital electronics.
