The LED Driver LM-40 is a highly efficient, low profile, Constant-Current-Regulator module that, due to its slim design and wide range of LED strings for which it is suited, can be almost universally deployed in LED display applications.

The LM-40 is a four-in-one device comprising LED driver, LED over-current protection, LED line shutdown and LED static light output control. This impressive performance is made possible by the use of a single-chip converter technology with a wide range of input voltage from 4.5V to 40V DC and adjustable output LED current up to a maximum of 350mA.

Specifically designed for linear LED lighting, the LM-40 has been extensively tested and qualified to meet its rated output current and voltage specifications over a wide temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.

It is possible to control the maximum output current of the LM-40 through ‘Current Limit’ control pins (available in DIP-6) or through an I2C interface. The rich features of the LM-40 make it a very attractive solution for LED display applications.

The main application field of the LM-40 is lighting, including:

• Indoor/outdoor LED displays and mood lighting
• Architectural LED lighting
• Automotive and display lighting
• Industrial LED lighting and machine vision systems
• Indoor consumer and security lighting.

LM-40 actively regulates the output LED current enjoying a maximum efficiency of up to 95 percent. This high efficiency makes the LM-40 a very attractive solution for LED display applications, since it generates very low heat losses.

The LM-40 is capable of driving up to 350mA with a line-down compatibility of -2.8V (CE compliance). Implemented with over-current protection (OCP) and over-temperature protection (OTP), it also has the ability to detect open-LEDs. When the OTP is triggered, the LM-40 shuts off the output current until the operating temperature has been reduced. The LM-40 includes overvoltage protection (OVP) to reduce or eliminate any damage to the device caused by unexpected high voltages.

The LM-40 allows controlling the output LED current from 100mA to 350mA through the external Inhibit_x and LED_EN control pins or through a modern, bidirectional I2C interface. The I2C interface also provides a firmware updating capability for future application enhancements by the customer.

Its slim profile, low voltage operation and high efficiency make the LM-40 an ideal solution for LED display applications. The module is certified according to the standards of the worldwide safety associations (UL, TUV-SUD, CE) and runs at temperatures between -40°C to 85°C.
