LED Dot Matrix and Cluster displays are widely used in a variety of applications. The most common type of LED matrix display is the 8×8 dot matrix, but there are several other matrix sizes available. The LDM-768-1LT-Y1, for example, is a 3x7x8 bi-color dot matrix module.
The LDM-768-1LT-Y1 is designed for use in applications such as instrumentation, audio-visual, messaging, gaming and security systems. It has a 1.4 mm pixel pitch, which reduces the impact of pixel migration due to its size. The matrix is also designed for a panel mounting installation and is capable of “virtual” dot pitch by multiple winding. It has a wide viewing angle, wide range of current consumption and fast response time.
The LDM-768-1LT-Y1 features a 4-wire interface that allows it to be connected to several microcontrollers or microprocessors without the need for additional circuitry. The module also has a tilt indicator that allows the user to identify whether the module is properly oriented when mounted. Additionally, it has 6 digital masks that can be used to set the data sequence and the refresh rate.
In terms of its working principle, the LDM-768-1LT-Y1 utilizes two chips executed in two consecutive cycles, one devoted to each color. Depending on the internal latch and control signals, the chip will control which LED will be lit and the color associated to it. The current related to the LED to be lit can be set manually or left at a default mode (default current for green LED is 20 mA and for red LED is 12 mA).
The module also has an analog current control, which makes it possible to adjust the current of all LEDs independently according to the luminance or contrast requirements of the application. In order to properly adjust the current, an external precision resistor is needed, which has to be placed between the two power buses in the interface.
In conclusion, the LDM-768-1LT-Y1 is a 3x7x8 bi-color dot matrix module that is ideally suited for applications such as instrumentation, audio-visual, messaging, gaming and security systems. It has a 4-wire interface, a 1.4 mm pixel pitch, a tilt indicator, 6 digital masks and an analog current control that allows for precise control of the LED current. With its wide range of features and capabilities, the LDM-768-1LT-Y1 is an ideal choice for a variety of applications.
