Working Principle

The LDS-C5646RI module starts working with a power supply of 3V DC. The module includes several LEDs with different colors, such as red, blue, green and yellow, which are configured in a rectilinear matrix. The display module is structured by a number of LED groups connected in series and driven in a common anode configuration. The data line contains a shift register, a latch register and a data line decoder. There is also an internal DC-DC converter, allowing the voltage to range from 1.5V to 12V.

The data is shifted out the shift register and sent to the adjacent LED pins. The latch register receives the data and passes it onto the LED pins. Each LED is connected to a column data line and the decoder ensures that each LED receives the appropriate data. The brightness of the LED is altered by adjusting the duty-cycle of each LED. The adjusted duty-cycle determines the current driving level for each LED, which in turn increases or decreases the brightness of the LED.

The LDS-C5646RI is programmed by an MCU (microcontroller unit). The MCU uses the I2C serial interface to communicate with the display module. The MCU sends data to the display module, which is then converted into a specific character symbol, such as numbers and alphabets. The characters are then shifted out the shift register in a continuous pattern and illuminated by the LEDs.
