LM25017MRX/NOPB is a DC-DC Switching Regulators, which belongs to the voltage regulators of the Power Management Integrated Circuits (PMIC) family. This regulator can switch either a buck or a boost output between 5V and 100V at a maximum output current of 7A.
This switching regulator is designed to operate on wide input voltages from 3V to 100V. It mainly works on buck topology and can be used to design different types of switching regulators with selectable output voltage, current, frequency and other features. An internal analog to digital converter is included to increase the accuracy of voltage and current regulation. The output voltage is adjustable from 0.3V to the maximum input voltage.
The LM25017MRX/NOPB can be used in applications such as industrial, military, automotive, medical and battery-powered applications. This switching regulator can be used to design charging systems, battery management systems, dc-dc converters, power supplies and other power management related circuits. It is also used in switching power converters, such as universal AC adapters and DC-DC converters.
The working principle of this voltage regulator is based on the buck or boost topology. When the input voltage is higher than the output voltage, the buck converter is used and the switch is turned ON. This turns the power source ON and allows the current to flow through the inductor. The current flowing through the inductor is stored in the magnetic field created by the inductor. As the switch is then turned OFF, the stored energy from the magnetic field is converted into an output voltage through a diode (known as the freewheeling diode). The inductor value is selected such that it provides the required output current and voltage. On the other hand, when the input voltage is lower than the output voltage, a boost converter is used and similar methods are employed for the conversion.
The LM25017MRX/NOPB is highly efficient and has low quiescent current, which makes it a very efficient device.
