The LM25037EVAL evaluation board is designed to demonstrate the working principle and field of application of the LM25037 synchronous buck controller. The chip provides the essential attributes necessary for a wide variety of high performance dc/dc conversion applications, as well as ac/dc offline switching mode power supplies (SMPS).

The LM25037EVAL board is configured to work as a synchronous buck converter, using two buck-mode MOSFETs to convert 2.5A input variable voltage into a 5V/1A output voltage. The input voltage ranges between 3V and 36V and is wide enough to cover applications including ac/dc boost and flyback topologies. The buck topology employed in the LM25037EVAL board is a classic type, featuring the Buck Switch with PWM Pulse-width Modulation (PWM) control and Feed-forward Compensation, providing excellent Transient Response(TR) to load steps. The board also features a selectable Forced Pulse-width Modulation/ Light Load Pulse-width Modulation (FPWM/LLPWM) mode, enabling much improved light-load efficiency due to the fixed duty cycle.

The LM25037 EVAL board also utilizes a complete protection suite that protects against short circuits (SCP), open loop (OLP), over-voltage (OVP), under-voltage lockout (UVL) and over-temperature (OTP) conditions. The protections monitor the current and start up pulse and features cycle-by-cycle fold back current limit, using a sense FET. The board also has programmable soft start, allowing the user to select the ramp duration, based on their own requirements. This allows for reduced in-rush current that is better suited for usage in systems with high capacity sources or small outputs that would otherwise be subject to heavy current spikes.

In terms of output quality, the LM25037EVAL board is designed to meet high-power conversion needs. The output ripple is minimized, allowing for consistent output conditions, which allows for precise control of output voltages within the desired range.
