IntroductionThe LM2575-5.0WT is a low dropout linear voltage regulator designed for applications requiring a low dropout voltage (<50mV @ 1A load current), a low quiescent current (<4mA) and an adjustable output voltage from the range of 5.0V to 24V. The integrated linear regulator is pulse width modulated (PWM) in a DC-DC switching regulator configuration. This reduces the amount of power wasted in buck-mode regulators due to the power dissipated across the output transistors.ApplicationsThe LM2575-5.0WT is suitable for a variety of applications such as battery-powered equipment, handheld devices, cell phone chargers, digital cameras, LED lighting, LED TVs, game consoles, and desktop PCs. It is also suitable for moderate voltage and current applications such as PC motherboards, PC add-on cards, remote controls, touchscreens, and embedded systems.Working PrincipleThe LM2575-5.0WT is an integrated linear voltage regulator and a DC-DC switching regulator, resulting in superior efficiency compared to discrete linear regulators. The integrated regulator works by converting the input voltage (V IN ) to a regulated output voltage (V OUT ), using a pulse width modulated (PWM) topology. The device is capable of delivering up to 1A output current with a dropout voltage of less than 50mV.The integrated PWM switch includes an oscillator, a driver, and an output stage with a programmable, adaptive dead-time control. The oscillator generates a frequency that matches the output filter characteristics. The driver stage is optimized for low voltage operation and flexibility, allowing for the adjustment of the current threshold, dead time and the output voltage.
