Power management integrated circuits (PMICs) are essential components in modern electronics systems. Working Principle
The LM4040BIM3-2.5/V+T voltage reference utilises bandgap reference technology. The bandgap reference works by utilizing the temperature-independent characteristics of a diode and the temperature dependent characteristics of a bipolar junction transistor (BJT).
The basic circuit uses two diodes, D1 and D2, to create a temperature independent voltage. The base-emitter of the BJT, B1 is then connected between the two diodes, which results in the output voltage being proportional to the temperature of the transistor. The output voltage is regulated by a precision programming resistor between the transistor and the output terminal.
The LM4040BIM3-2.5/V+T voltage reference also offers a degree of protection against reverse current. This is achieved through the use of an internal series diode which operates as a back-biased diode-capacitor combination at the reference output. This allows the device to protect against reverse current without compromising the accuracy of the output voltage.
The LM4040BIM3-2.5/V+T voltage reference offers excellent performance, with an output voltage accuracy of ±0.10% over a temperature range of 0°C to 70°C. It also features a low operating current of only 1.3mA and a low reference temperature coefficient of only 5ppm/°C.
