The device can be powered from single- and dual-cell Li-ion batteries as well as from 5V to 8V power systems and exhibits very small linear temperature drift ensuring its stabilization even in thermal environmental changes. Consequently, it is ideal for use in computerized fuel injection, automotive battery-monitoring systems, portable medical equipment, BMS (Battery Monitoring System) apps, RFID transponders, portable consumer equipment, consumer communications variety of system etc.
The working principle of the LM4040CIM3-4.1-TR is pretty simple. The device consists of an input voltage, which is compared with a fixed reference voltage (2.5V, 3V, 3.3V or 4.1V). The output voltage of the device is then equal to the difference between the two. An output transistor regulates the current to the load and fixes the output voltage with a very low temperature coefficient. The LM4040’s fixed 2.5V, 3V, 3.3V and 4.1V output voltages make it unique among the voltage references and it is also the only device in its class with the smallest current consumption (3μA). The tiny SOT-23 package of the device makes it highly suitable for space-critical applications.
