Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC) is a type of integrated circuit in power management, which plays an important role in all aspects of power management. Voltage Reference is one of the PMIC functions, this part will introduce LM4120IM5-5.0/NOPB in Voltage Reference field application and working principle in detail.

LM4120IM5-5.0/NOPB is a member of LM4120 family, which is a high performance and low power micropower low dropout linear regulator (LDO). It has a low input voltage, low voltage drop out and fast transient response, which is suitable for battery-powered mobile application and so on.LM4120IM5-5.0/NOPB has a two-stage architecture, the cascade of two low-dropout regulator of first stage and second stage which achieve high efficiency and fast response time. The PMOS pass element of the first stage along with the current limit circuit provides fast response to transients and supply a high peak output current. The second stage is a low power analog regulator AP1531. It operates at 3.2V to 6.5V input Voltage and has a fixed output voltage of 5V. It is low power, efficient, compact and reliable.

LM4120IM5-5.0/NOPB power supply from 3.2V to 6.5V and delivers 5V/1A output current. It is available in SOIC-8 and TSSOP-8 package which enable to handle high power loads. It contains several features, such as under voltage lock out (UVLO). In-rush Current Limiting (ICL) and Power Good (PG) Indicator for detecting the output voltage is at the stable level. In addition, Current Limiting Accuracy (CLA) circuit is designed to provide accuracy current limiting.This LDOs has multi-topology that provides high current, low ripple and fast transient response.

It also has shutdown feature, the “shutdown” pin of LM4120IM5-5.0/NOPB is connected to ground to enable the device, and to Vcc to disable it, mainly to reduce power consumption in the sleep mode.Once enabled, the current drawn is as low as 3mA and can be used as power monitoring and management.

LM4120IM5-5.0/NOPB has excellent reliability performance, it can adjust itself according to the load, thermal protection, and the current is limited to the specific value or less to enhance the safety performance. In terms of the environmental temperature range, the LM4120IM5-5.0/NOPB can work stably at -40°C~125°C.Meanwhile, the device power to ground/power to power ESD protection over 2KV is also a very important feature.
