Working Principle
The LM4140BCM-4.1 uses a bandgap voltage reference to produce a highly accurate reference voltage output. A bandgap reference works by using two active elements – an n-type transistor, and a p-type transistor. When operating in the presence of a current source, both of these transistors produce a voltage drop in proportion to the current input that maintains the base-emitter junction. The two transistors create a voltage difference between their emitters that is independent from the voltage applied to the current source. The LM4140BCM-4.1 accurately monitors the current input and adjusts the internal support circuitry so that the output is precisely maintained at the required voltage value.
The LM4140BCM-4.1 provides a very low noise output, with an output voltage accuracy of ±2.5mV and an offset voltage accuracy of ±2mV for any load voltage from 0.1V to 4.0V.
