The LM4995SDX/NOPB is a high voltage audio amplifier incorporated with a completely integrated SenseFET power stage and a DirectFET output stage for enhanced performance. This audio amplifier is developed for consumer audio, automotive audio, professional audio-visual applications, and convenience medical applications. The LM4995SDX/NOPB provides a 30V - 90V power supply range and a 90V output peak-to-peak drive capability, while delivering up to 35W RMS into an 8Ω load (51W into a 4Ω load) with low distortion and high off-time. With a high switching frequency up to 500kHz, the LM4995SDX/NOPB maintains excellent efficiency even in low supply voltage applications.
The working principle of the LM4995SDX/NOPB is based on the SenseFET/DirectFET topology. The SenseFET and DirectFET within the IC provide the ideal combination of power, efficiency, and performance for high voltage audio applications. The SenseFET is the primary driver for the DirectFET. The SenseFET is configured as an H-Bridge and controls the conduction of the load current from the main power supply. This provides the high voltage supply required for the DirectFET to operate, allowing for greater power delivery to the load.
The SenseFET and DirectFET also provide protection for the power stage and the audio output. The current and thermal shut down functions of these two transistors provide protection against overcurrent and overtemperature conditions. The error amplifier within the IC is designed to respond to excessive load current and reduce gain by lowering the voltage on the current sense pin. This reduces the output voltage of the amplifier, preventing the destruction of the IC due to the excessive current.
The DirectFET within the LM4995SDX/NOPB is designed to provide a high-fidelity audio signal output with low distortion and high current drive capability. The DirectFET is configured as a four-transistor, two-current-source driver with input and output stages. The output stage is a high-current, four-quadrant current source capable of delivering up to 2A continuous current to the load.
The input stage of the LM4995SDX/NOPB is designed to provide a low distortion, low impedance audio input. This is accomplished by using two matched, low impedance amplifying transistors with a complementary output stage.
