Evaluation Boards - Linear Voltage Regulators
The LP38853EVAL evaluation board is an ideal voltage regulator for a range of applications. Designed by Texas Instruments, the LP38853EVAL is a dual, low-input voltage, 3A, Low-Dropout (LDO) regulator that is capable of providing power to multiple devices, and is ideally suited for applications such as 3G/4G base stations, wireless M2M applications and smart buildings. The evaluation board is also suitable for use in industrial and medical applications, and is designed to support a wide range of output voltages up to 3.3V.
The LP38853EVAL board comes with a number of desirable features, including a low-dropout voltage (LDO) of 200mV, an operating voltage range of 4.5V to 26V, a low quiescent current draw of 14µA, and an input voltage range of 2.7V to 6V. The board features a separate enable/disable control for each of the two outputs, allowing users to control one output while the other remains enabled. The board also features overcurrent protection, a disable input, and high-temperature shutdown.
LP38853EVAL’s working principle is based on the idea of linear regulation. Linear regulation is a method of voltage regulation, in which voltage is regulated with discrete components such as resistors and capacitors. Essentially, when the load current varies, voltage is regulated using the LP38853EVAL’s feedback voltage. This feedback voltage is generated by comparing the reference voltage with the output voltage. A negative feedback loop is created in which the regulator’s error signal is fed back to the input. This loop is used to adjust the output voltage, in order to achieve a regulated output voltage.
The LP38853EVAL is an ideal choice for many applications, due to its versatility and wide range of features. Its low dropout voltage, coupled with its low quiescent current draw and wide input voltage range, make it perfect for powering multiple devices, while its overcurrent protection, disable input and high-temperature shutdown make it useful for industrial and medical applications.
