Fixed Inductors
A fixed inductor (LQH44NNR74M03L) is a type of electrical component which is composed of two wire windings around a central core of magnetic material. Working Principle
Fixed inductors operate on an electrical principle known as inductance. Inductance is created when a wire carries a current; a magnetic field is created which is directly proportional to the amount of current flowing through the coil. When alternating currents are introduced then the magnetic field created alternates between positive and negative polarities with each successive cycle. This creates an inductance current in the opposite direction to the primary electrical current. In this way, the inductance works to oppose, or block, any change in the electrical current.
Fixed inductors also employ a concept called mutual inductance. This is the effect of an inductor on another inductor within the same circuit. Mutual inductance causes the impedance of one inductor to affect the impedance of the other inductor. As the impedance of one inductor changes, the ripple current between them changes as well, creating an effect known as damping. Damping reduces the voltage fluctuations in the current and stabilizes the voltage supply, allowing the voltage to maintain its parameters. This is a particularly useful effect in applications such as power supplies, which require a stable voltage supply.
Fixed inductors have a wide array of applications, and can be used in anything from automobile electronics to complex medical systems. By understanding the principles of inductance and mutual inductance, it is easier to understand the applications and advantages of this component.
