AC DC Converters: LRS-150F-5 Application Field and Working Principle

The LRS-150F-5 is an AC DC converter which enables the user to convert Alternating Current (AC) power into Direct Current (DC) power. It is a bi-directional, high frequency switching power supply which features wide input voltage range, high power factor, high efficiency, low harmonic distortion, low noise, and high reliability. It is designed for applications such as industrial equipment, medical equipment, home appliances, and communication systems.

Working Principle

The principle of AC-DC conversion is to convert the alternating current from the utility source to direct current by means of rectifiers. The rectifiers are usually power diodes that are connected in either a full-wave or a half-wave configuration. The rectifiers convert the AC voltage to DC voltage, which is then filtered by a filter capacitor in order to remove any remaining AC frequencies from the direct current.

The output of the rectifier is then further conditioned by a switching power supply circuit. The DC to DC converter consists of a buck converter circuit or a boost converter circuit, which converts the DC voltage to the desired output voltage level. The AC to DC inverter consists of power switching transistors, which are operated at a frequency much higher than the frequency of the alternating current. When the transistors are turned on, the direct current is transferred from the DC source to the output load, and when the transistors are turned off, the output load is connected back to the DC source.
