The LT1109CS8-12#PBF operates from a 0.8V to 12V input. It supports two user-selectable output voltage configurations: a 0.8V, 0.9V, 1.0V, 1.1V, 1.2V, 1.3V, 1.5V, 1.8V, 2.5V, 3.3V, 5V, and 12V. The LT1109CS8-12#PBF can deliver up to 1 Amp of continuous output current with internal thermal protection for the FET and an adjustable current limit.

The LT1109CS8-12#PBF is designed for a variety of applications such as automotive and industrial, communications base stations, point-of-load regulators, portable instrumentation and wireless devices. The LT1109CS8-12#PBF has a logic controlled SHDN. When the SHDN input is low, the regulator is disabled and the output voltage drops to within 10mV of VIN. This allows the device to be powered using a wide variety of operating voltages. Additionally, it features temperature, input and output voltage sensing.

The LT1109CS8-12#PBF utilizes low RDS(ON) N-Channel FET switches and external Schottky diodes for better efficiency. The input voltage is converted to a fixed voltage using two buck stages and an LDO with two resistors, two RC filters and two reference transistors. The two buck stages operate in complementary phase to minimize the input ripple and noise.

The first stage uses a high-side power switch and a synchronous rectifier while the second stage employs a low-side switch and diode. The second state, the Low-Side Switch is turned on while the High Side Switch is turned Off. The buck section switches are triggered for the next cycle during this time. The buck-boost function (no dead time) allows the LT1109CS8-12#PBF to generate an output voltage that is higher or lower than the input voltage.

The LT1109CS8-12#PBF internal circuitry is optimized for high efficiency and low-power dissipation, making it one of the most attractive and versatile linear regulators currently available. In light load conditions, the LT1109CS8-12#PBF device can operate in a diode-mode, eliminating switching losses and significantly reducing the quiescent current.
