As the voltage regulator chips, they are aimed to rectify, regulate and map the voltage into the desired one according to the instruction of the programmed control unit, making sure that the output devices has stable and reliable power supply.The LT1374IR-5#TRPBF is a step-down switching regulator with integrated low RDS(on) synchronous MOSFETs, controlled by a proprietary architecture that provides cycle-by-cycle current limiting, adjustable soft-start, programmable frequency-hopping and an adjustable power limit. Programmed duty cycle is set permanently and the duty cycle should exceed the maximum value of specified duty cycle by at least 2.5% to ensure proper operation of the device under all conditions. The LT1374IR-5#TRPBF regulatable output voltage range is 1.2V to 20V, with an operating input voltage range of 4.5V to 20V. Its peak current limit is 1.5A and the maximum total output power is about 10W. It features programmable soft-start for smooth output insertion and operation with no overshoot or ringing. It also adopts the audio-detect-echo frequency hopping function to prevent audible noise caused by wide load variations.The LT1374IR-5#TRPBF are suitable for a wide range of applications, such as automotive power converter, motor drive, cellular phone power management, audio power amplifier, home theater systems and electronic appliances. In linear voltage regulators, this is achieved by the use of a series linear resistance and a series linear inductor. However, with LT1374IR-5#TRPBF, this voltage conversion is done using switching devices. Switching devices are used because they are much faster and more efficient than linear methods. In LT1374IR-5#TRPBF, the main switching device is an insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT). This IGBT is responsible for the transformation of the source voltage into the correct output voltage, by switching the input voltage on and off at such rapid speed, that the average voltage across the IGBT is the same as the output voltage. Thanks to this switching, the power losses is significantly reduced, resulting in more efficient power conversion.In the LT1374IR-5#TRPBF circuit, the IGBT is connected to an appropriately sized inductor, like an air-core transformer.
