Working Principle

LT1424IN8-5#PBF is a step-down switching regulator which converts a higher voltage at the input side (Riptide) to a lower output voltage (Load) at its output. Internal circuitry of LT1424IN8-5#PBF is divided into two major function blocks, Riptide- control block and Load- control block. Riptide- Control block contains an Error Amplifier, Amplitude Detector(ADC), Blanking Signal Generator, PWM Controller and a Current Source Switch. It maintains the output voltage at its preset level. Load- Control block contains a Drive Circuit, Current Sense Amplifier and Bridge Drivers. This block is used to deliver the current to the output at a predetermined rate along with the time separation controlled by PWM.

When the output voltage drops below the preset output voltage, the difference is detected by the ADC. This is amplified again by the error amplifier and the PWM duty cycle is increased. This will increase the load current increasing the voltage at the output. The opposite action is done when the output voltage is above the preset voltage level. This feedback loop continues, maintaining the output voltage at the preset level and regulating the load current accordingly.
