LT1460 is a Voltage Reference product, part of an extensive range of PMIC - Voltage Reference devices from Analog Devices Inc. The LT1460DCS8-2.5#TRPBF product is a regulated 3-Terminal Micropower Voltage Reference in low profile SC-70 package. An internal precision reference and an error amplifier are combined in the LT1460 to form a voltage reference with 0.7% initial accuracy and 1uV/V typical line regulation. Of course the LT1460 is also low power (1.4uA max supply current).

LT1460 voltage reference provides a stable output voltage with low temperature coefficient. Line regulation is excellent; the LT1460 provides 1uV/V typical line regulation enabling precision since no extra error amplifiers and buffer amplifiers are needed. High stability is provided by low output noise of 0.1uVrms. Also, the LT1460 offers a wide range of output voltage options on the same chip.

The LT1460 voltage reference is specifically designed to replace linear reference diodes and Zener references in precision portable instrumentation applications. The device is capable of operating with a wide input voltage range from 1.75V to 18V and offering a low output current capability in order to reduce quiescent current as much as possible. In addition to its low current draw, the device features a low output noise voltage and a low temperature coefficient for robust and precise operation.

The LT1460 voltage reference features several different output voltage options, the LT1460DCS8-2.5#TRPBF has output range from 0.8-2.5V. With a maximum supply current of only 1.4uA, operation from a single battery cell is possible. The device also offers excellent pin-to-pin time/temperature stability, with a low output noise voltage. The LT1460DCS8-2.5#TRPBF has a temperature range of -40 Celsius to +125 Celsius and a temperature coefficient of 40ppm/C.

The LT1460 also offers low tolerance to external noise, thanks to its robust design. This makes it ideal for use in noise-sensitive portable systems, such as medical instrumentation and test equipment. By comparison to conventional linear references and zener references, the LT1460 offers improved accuracy, stability, and a much wider input voltage range.

The LT1460 integrated circuits are designed to work with a reference voltage which can be supplied externally or derived internally. The reference voltage derives its stability over a wide temperature range from an external resistor connected to the externally generated reference voltage or to the internally generated reference voltage. Internal circuitry adjusts the current through the external resistors thus changing the output reference voltage that is applied to the circuits.

The dominant parameter in the LT1460 voltage reference is initial accuracy and noise. By operating at low currents, the LT1460 achieves 0.4% initial accuracy and 1.4uA max supply current for 0.8-2.5V output voltage range - and 0.7% initial accuracy and 1uV/V typical line regulation for other outputs. Noise and temperature characteristics are excellent too - 0.1uVrms output noise and 40ppm/C temperature coefficient.

The LT1460 is used in precision portable instrumentation, especially to improve accuracy and increase noise immunity as compared to using a linear reference or zener reference. The part also gives engineers a very high level of design flexibility due to its wide input voltage range, low power consumption, and a wide range of output voltage options.
