The LT1575CN8-2.8 is a monolithic low dropout positive voltage regulator enclosed in an 8-pin SO-package. When the output load is increased the voltagesense voltage drops and the error amplifier sources more current to the series pass transistor in order to maintain the desired output voltage. When the load increases further, the voltage across the series pass transistor increases and the junction temperature increases. The thermal shutdown circuit senses the temperature and turns off the drive to the series pass transistor. This prevents overtemperature conditions from occurring, protecting the regulator from damage.
