The LTC2630CSC6-LM10#TRMPBF is a monolithic integrated circuit, part of the Data Acquisition - Digital to Analog Converters (DAC) family of products. It is an unipolar digital-to-analog converter (DAC) designed to provide 8 bits of monotonic resolution across a wide voltage output range. This DAC is designed to accept simple serial input data formats and is capable of settling to full-scale output in only 6 microseconds, making it ideal for fast sample rate applications.

The LTC2630CSC6-LM10#TRMPBF includes a precision internal reference and can directly drive a current or voltage output that is two times the internal reference. This allows the DAC to generate a wide output range from VDD to the negative power supply rail, or from VDD to ground. It operates from a single 2.7V to 5.5V power supply, or from a dual ±4.3V, ±2.5V, or ±5V supply.

The LTC2630CSC6-LM10#TRMPBF’s SPI-compatible serial port control allows an easy interface with all microprocessor-based systems. It operates in three different modes depending upon the state of the CS (Chip Select) pin: Normal Operation Mode, Shutdown Mode, and Programmable Address Mode.

In Normal Operation Mode, the serial input consists of an 18-bit word. It consists of the first 8 bits, which compose the DAC code; three address bits; and two command bits. The 3 address bits allow the user to access one of the 8 DACs in the device. By changing these 3 address bits, an additional 8 DACs with the same functionality and specifications can be accessed.

In Shutdown Mode, CS is held low. The device destroys any previous data at the DIN pin and ignores any new data, therefore virtually shutting down the device.

In Programmable Address Mode, CS is held low and the internal address of the device is changed. This allows the user to program the device from the serial input. There are 7 programmable address bits and writing any address to the device changes the internal address of the device.

The LTC2630CSC6-LM10#TRMPBF’s applications include driving a wide variety of active loads such temperature controllers, current-loop circuits, and motor drivers. It is also ideal for use in precision data acquisition systems, digital control systems, automated test equipment and PID loop control.

Working Principle: The LTC2630CSC6-LM10#TRMPBF includes a current source that is capable of supplying up to 10mA of current. The internal reference is buffered through an amplifier stage and resistor divider network before supplying the bias current. The resistance values determine the output capability. The DAC uses a 9-bit resistor string to scale the reference. The DAC register is decoded using a binary-weighted resistor string to produce the 8-bit output resolution. The code is maintained when the power is turned off.
