The LTC2634HMSE-LZ8#PBF refers to a family of quad, 16-bit, voltage-output digital-to-analog converters (DACs) from Linear Technology Corporation. The device uses an external reference, allowing rail-to-rail output operation; however, it can also be used with a single supply. It is intended as a medium-power precision DAC for a wide array of mathematically unknown and/or continuously changing application fields, such as closed-loop control in industrial, military, and medical systems.

The LTC2634HMSE-LZ8#PBF is capable of outputting a wide range of analog signal types and is designed to conform with the technology standards of 16-bit resolution and 3 V operation, while also accommodating a scalable current range of up to 4mA full-scale. The device provide digital-to-analog conversion over a wide resolution and ranges, allowing programming to as low as 2.5 mVDC, or 2 µA.

The device is constructed with a 16-bit register and a binary-weighted resistor string, which enables the output to accurately match the programmed input. These DACs also have a low power density, dissipating up to 50 mW for a full-scale output. The current-to-voltage output, which provides useful features that make it superior to other DACs, such as no external resistor required, low power consumption and wide power supply range.

The LTC2634HMSE-LZ8#PBF consists of four independent DAC channels, each capable of outputting an arbitrary voltage level ranging from 0V to VREF. The device interface is provided through a serial SPI-compatible 3-wire (DA, CLK, and CS) interface with facilities for loading the DAC control register, data register, and the digital data bus. The registers are 16-bit resolution, converting digital codes into the output voltage range.

The DACs support a wide range of common digital data formats such as Binary, Offset Binary, or Two\'s Complement, making them suitable for many data acquisition and control applications. Furthermore, for PVT-accurate results different temperature ranges, a 2-point calibration mode is available, allowing the DAC to self-calibrate. The default power-up mode is shutdown, which instantly powers down each DAC when the bus is inactive, providing a standby power-saving feature

As well as accurately reflecting the programmed input data, the LTC2634HMSE-LZ8#PBF advantages include the buffered voltage outputs for each channel, which are capable of driving up to 4mA of full-scale current. The device also incorporates a power-on reset function to ensure that the DACs are initialised correctly, and a thermal overload circuit to correctly shut-down any overloaded DACs.
