The LTC3115EFE-2#PBF switching regulator is a part of the PMIC (Power Management IC) family of products manufactured by Linear Technology. This regulator is designed for low power, efficient, low noise, high-performance applications. It is a dual-channel integrated DC-DC switching regulator that provides an adjustable output voltage of up to 3.3 or 5V from a single-supply range of 1.5V to 5.5V.The regulator incorporates a high-frequency PWM (pulse width modulation) control architecture and can handle output current up to 1.2A. It features a fully integrated switching power stage with synchronous rectification, and over-current, short-circuit and over-temperature protection. The regulator also features an adjustable switching frequency of up to 750kHz, which allows the designer to optimize the efficiency, reduce switching noise and size of the solution accordingly.The LTC3115EFE-2#PBF is optimized to operate in parallel and adjust the ratio of the output currents. This provides flexibility in design and allows for a cost-effective solution for higher power applications. This regulator is used for a wide range of applications such as portable applications, battery management, industrial and consumer electronics, as well as low-power embedded systems.In terms of the LTC3115EFE-2#PBF working principle, its high frequency PWM control architecture utilizes current-mode control. The output voltage is controlled by varying the Duty Cycle of the Pulse Width Modulation waveform. The Duty Cycle is then adjusted to obtain the desired output voltage.The regulator has a low output voltage trim feature that allows the output voltage to be adjusted down to 0.6V. Its output voltage is regulated with a high accuracy of ±1%. This accuracy is achieved through the use of two comparators, one ectioning as an error amplifier and the other functioning as an oscillator. The error amplifier compares the feedback signal with a reference signal and generates an error signal. This error signal is then fed to the oscillator, which controls the switching frequency of the high-side and low-side MOSFETs.The regulator also has a linear Mode (LDO) feature which can be used to reduce noise and improve light-load efficiency. In this mode, the regulator will automatically reduce the switching frequency and enter a linear operating mode when the output current is low.
