The LTC3129EUD#PBF is a dual-output wide-input DC/DC converter from Linear Technology (LT) which offers excellent efficiency performance and easy migration to either 2.5V or 1.8V output rails. This device is part of the company’s exceptional Low Dropout (LDO) and StepDown (Buck-Boost) voltage regulator family. The integrated electronic components in this chip allow it to provide a solution with low noise, outside of its applications in portable consumer electronics.Due to the characteristic high efficiency and ultra-fast transient response, the LTC3129EUD#PBF is suitable for a wide range of applications, including portable consumer electronics, battery powered systems, wearable and implantable medical devices and industrial equipment. Other potential applications include automotive and satellite communications. It is also ideal for multicore processors and complex FPGA or Microcontroller (MCU) subsystems which generally require multiple supply rails to power different components. This versatile device operates from an input voltage range of 2.75V to 6V for two-rail generation and up to 4.8V for single-rail or two-rail generation. With its low 0.95V dropout voltage, the LTC3129EUD#PBF guarantees smooth transition between input voltages and stable outputs. Furthermore, its high voltage rating of 42V ensures excellent protection for the output components in case of increased voltages.At the same time, this device features gate drive outputs which enable driving N-channel MOSFETs directly, eliminating the need for an additional driver and reducing power dissipation. As a result, further savings in board space and improvement in performance can be achieved.In addition, the LTC3129EUD#PBF includes an embedded Error Amplifier and an internal Soft-Start capacitor, giving designers additional flexibility in their design and allowing them to create very high-performance power supplies. This capacitor is used in order to reduce the inrush current during startup and regulated operation, as well as to prevent the risk of power surges.Internally, the device operates by using a combination of mode conversion and two charge pumps to generate the two, separate outputs. The LT3129EUD#PBF features a 0.95V, 60mV Shutdown supply range which ensures that the outputs remain off in the event of a VIN <2.75V, further enhancing the power saving feature. As part of its features, the LTC3129EUD#PBF also has a built-in soft-start feature which rapidly increases the power at startup and thus reduces the inrush current to the system. This feature can be achieved without the need for additional components.In conclusion, the LTC3129EUD#PBF is an excellent option for a wide range of applications which demand high performance, high efficiency and low noise.
