The LTC3633AIFE-3#TRPBF is a 3A, low noise, synchronous buck-boost regulator with an integrated high-side FET, from Linear Technology. It features a wide output voltage range from 0.6V to 5.5V and an adjustable switching frequency from 150kHz to 600kHz. The 3A rating provides efficient operation, while the operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C enables usage in a wide variety of applications. It is well suited for applications such as portable devices powered by dual cell Li-Ion/Polymer batteries, active/edit mode memory cards, and other low voltage/power applications.

Working Principle

The LTC3633AIFE-3#TRPBF is a two-switch buck-boost converter with synchronous rectification. A fixed frequency current mode PWM control architecture is used. The input voltage is converted to a voltage signal by the comparator. This voltage signal is compared to the amplifier signal of the inductor current. The output voltage is set with an external resistor divider. The external resistor divider also provides the loop compensation by changing the amount of feedback signal.

An integrated high-side FET enables the user to bypass the input voltage in order to save power. The frequency of the switching is adjusted by an external resistor. The 3A output current rating allows efficient operation over a wide range of output voltages and levels.
