It also provides wide output voltage range and high accuracy with an optional compensation network, providing low noise and low ripple operation. The output is adjustable from 0.6V to 94.3% of the input voltage.
The voltage regulator has an integrated lead-free thermally enhanced 5mm x 5mm QFN package, along with the application-specific features such as the adjustable cycle-by-cycle current limit, programmable output OVP, programmable ultra-low available standby mode current and much more. The module is suitable in various designs with its flexible features and low ripple, low noise features.
Working Principle
The LTC3639HMSE#PBF module employs a PFM (Pulse Frequency Modulation) control method. It combines pulse-by-pulse current limit, soft-start and short-circuit protection to provide reliable operation when the input and output voltages are different. The switching frequency of the module is adjustable from 200kHz to 600kHz, so it can be used for low noise and low cost designs.
The module employs an internal oscillator with an adjustable frequency for synchronizing with an external clock. When the voltage at the output falls below the set point, the current limit comparator trips and the cycle is terminated prematurely. The controller automatically restarts the cycle. Furthermore, the cycle-by-cycle current limit comparator monitors the inductor current and limits it when it exceeds the preset limit.
The LTC3639HMSE#PBF module provides an adjustable Output over voltage protection (OVP) to protect the system from faults and overloads. It also offers adjustable Pre-boost functionality to reduce the amount of output ripple during light load conditions.
