The LTC3816EUHF#TRPBF is a robust, high-current step-down switching regulator open-drain controller. It is designed to deliver up to 20A of output current over a wide input voltage range of 4.5V to 40V. The device utilizes two integrated MOSFET stages to provide both high efficiency and excellent thermal performance to meet the demands of high power, low voltage applications. Applications include DC/DC converters, point-of-load regulators, automotive and industrial power supply controllers, inverters, and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS).
The LTC3816EUHF#TRPBF is part of the PMIC - Voltage Regulators - Special Purpose group of products. This family of Voltage Regulators provides product features such as: adjustable output voltage, high efficiency, wide input voltage range, adjustable soft-start, protection against overload, overvoltage and back-drive, auto-compensation for temperature, and more. The product’s integrated MOSFET drivers translate the control signal from the voltage regulator into MOSFET gate drivers for fast, multiple-step voltage transition, extended frequency response and quicker response to load transients.
The LTC3816EUHF#TRPBF is enabled by a logic low Enable pin and is available in a small 6-pin SC-70 and 8-pin MSOP packages. It features an adjustable frequency Range from 200kHz to 1.3MHz and an adjustable soft-start current limit. The device features an adjustable output voltage, allowing up to 4.5V to 40V, and a wide input voltage range of 4.5V to 40V, a current-mode design, allowing fast transient response and excellent regulation. In addition, the device features thermal protection, undervoltage lockout, and overvoltage protection.
The working principle of the LTC3816EUHF#TRPBF is based on the integrated Buck PWM controller used in the voltage regulator. The integrated MOSFET enables higher efficiency, lower power losses, and minimized output voltage ripple.
