The LTC4263CS#PBF is a standalone Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) controller designed to power IEEE 802.3af and 802.3at compliant PoE applications. This highly efficient and cost effective device minimizes the number of parts and components required to power up to 4 ports of PoE. The internal protection circuitry will limit current if the voltage reaches the user-defined thresholds.
The LTC4263CS#PBF is an integrated power management IC (PMIC) specifically designed for IEEE 802.3af/at applications. It consists of 5 separately operating power stages with independent control logic and status monitoring capabilities. The power stages include DC/DC converters, Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) controller, and line-side interface logic. The LTC4263CS#PBF detects the presence of a valid 48V DC voltage source on the Ethernet cable and begins to regulate the current to enable power delivery to the Ethernet device. The PoE controller drives an external MOSFET to deliver up to 4.5 watts of power to powering connected devices. It also monitor voltage, current and temperature level on each channel input to maintain the overall system safety. In addition, it has an on-chip ADC for measuring and logging the current on each channel.
The internal control loop of the LTC4263CS#PBF regulates the output voltage by controlling the MOSFET gate through the on-chip Gate Driver. This ensures a stable and constant output voltage, which makes the IC ideal for powering remote Ethernet devices. The on-chip gate driver can be programmed to provide a gate voltage of up to 9 V, allowing for increased output voltage for heavier loads. The IC also contains an on-chip timer that can be configured to automatically turn off the MOSFET gate and disable power delivery to the attached Ethernet device after a user-defined timeout period.
