The LTC4353IDE is a combination of a linear ideal diode controller with a high-frequency synchronous buck regulator. It is classified into PMIC - OR Controllers, Ideal Diodes, as it offers a compact, integrated solution for protecting the input power of modern point-of-load (PoL) DC/DC converters. The device\'s combination of ideal diode smart-power switch, synchronous buck regulator, and overvoltage and overcurrent protection enables “hot-swap” use and fault-tolerant operation.
The device features a highly integrated and efficient ideal diode front end combined with a linear battery charger controller and a wide adjustable frequency synchronous buck regulator, allowing the device to maintain control of both the input and the output voltages. This arrangement eliminates the need for external diode rectifiers on the input power, reducing total power loss.
The Ideal Diode block of the LTC4353IDE maximizes efficiency while still providing the “ideal diode” approach to power switching, with no heatsinks or magnets needed. The input voltage range is 2.5 V to 28 V, and the output voltage range is 0.5 V to 5.0 V. The synchronous buck regulator provides up to 6 A of continuous output current.
The device also includes various protections and fault-tolerant circuits. The ideal diode controller provides overtemperature, overvoltage and undervoltage protection, as well as current-foldback protection for the synchronous buck converter. The undervoltage protection circuit provides an additional layer of protection against sudden power losses, alerting the user when the input supply voltage is approaching its minimum. All of these protection circuits allow the device to operate safely in harsh environments.
In addition, the device features a “mixed-current” mode that can be used to provide a DC supply with a combined input and output current profile.
