The LTM4642EY#PBF DC DC Converter utilizes an isolated buck converter topology which allows it to convert a DC voltage input into a regulated higher DC output voltage. It consists of two main components, a primary switching circuit and a secondary control circuit. The primary switching circuit is powered directly by the DC input voltage and includes an inductor, a diode, and a transistor switch. The secondary control circuit is powered by the output voltage and is used to drive the primary transistor switch, which flips on and off at a predetermined frequency based on the output voltage. As the primary switch turns OFF, energy is stored in inductor and then released to the output in the form of a direct current when the primary switch turns ON.
