The LTM8056IY is a DC DC converter designed by Linear Technology to provide high performance and superior cost savings when compared to competitive solutions.The LTM8056IY is a buck converter capable of up to 4 Amps of output current. It features a wide input voltage range of 4.5V to 28V, adjustable output voltage of 0.6V to 12.06V, and low-dropout operation from 0.6V to 6V. The LTM8056IY utilizes sense resistors, voltage feedback and current sense feedback to provide energy efficiency of up to 98% and total current losses of less than 0.3%. This makes it ideal for use in power-critical applications such as wireless radio basestations, networking, server, storage, and telecom systems.The LTM8056IY is a synchronous buck converter that works by converting power from the input voltage source to a lower, regulated output voltage. The conversion process is achieved by the dual N-channel and P-channel MOSFETs that control the power transfer. As the input voltage increases, the MOSFETs are able to transfer a higher amount of power to the output capacitor, resulting in greater output voltage. This is an efficient process as there is no power loss associated with the switching of the MOSFETs.The LTM8056IY is also capable of handling input and output voltages that are up to 140V. This is due to its patented high voltage design, which is able to limit current during high input voltage situations.
