LTV-3120S-TA is an optically coupled gate driver module that provides power isolated driving signals to the gate of the power MOSFET or IGBT that is used in power switching control circuit. It can survive in a wide range of temperatures, from -40 to + 105 degrees Celsius.

This device is specifically designed for use in switching power converters such as AC-DC or DC-DC converters, motor drivers, power amplifiers, and apparatus and instrumentation which require the driving currents from DC to 7.5A with fast switching speed. It is capable to control all types of power FETs, IGBTs, etc.

The basic working principle of the LTV-3120S-TA opto coupler is based on a light activated device, such as a Light Emitting Diode (LED), which is used as a source of light. The LED light is then optically coupled to a transistor, whereby the light emitted by the LED is converted into an electrical signal. This optically isolated signals then drive the gate of the power MOSFET or IGBT. So that it can be used to switch the output power loads.

The LTV-3120S-TA comprises of two chips, the input LED chip and the output power MOSFET/ IGBT driver chip. The LED chip generates light and the sensing current is injected into the LED chip to measure the amount of light generated. The output driver then amplifies the light emitted by the LED chip and drives it to the source pin of the power MOSFET or IGBT.

Some of the benefits of using the LTV-3120S-TA opto coupler over conventional gate drivers include higher electrical noise immunity, improved performance and longer switches life.
