Working Principle

The primary function of the HV amplifier is to provide the high side output voltages. This is done by using a voltage divider network, which is connected to the alternating current (AC) line voltage. The AC line voltage provides the primary energy source for the HV amplifier, and the combination of the AC line voltage and the voltage divider network produces a variable voltage output. This variable voltage output is then inverted by the HV amplifier to provide the high side gate-drive voltage.

The primary function of the LV amplifier is to provide the low side output voltages. This is done by using a current source, which is connected to the AC line voltage. The current source provides the primary energy source for the LV amplifier, and the combination of the AC line voltage and the current source produces a variable voltage output. This variable voltage output is then inverted by the LV amplifier to produce the low side gate-drive voltage.

Once the required gate-drive voltages have been generated, the LTV-3150S then provides full integrated gate-drive circuitry for controlling the power switches. Such circuitry includes gate-overvoltage protection, over-current protection, and short-circuit protection. This circuitry ensures that the power switches will remain safe, even when subjected to extreme operating conditions.
