Optoisolators, also known as optocouplers, opto-isolators or photo-couplers, are used to electrically isolate two circuits while providing a communication link between them without the use of an intermediate electrical connection. The LTV-817S is an optoisolator with a transistor-type, photovoltaic output that offers high reliability, low cost, and various electrical isolation levels. This optoisolator is well suited for use in both commercial and industrial applications.

Application Field

The LTV-817S is most suitable for applications where isolation between two circuits is required to protect against electrical interference such as noise, surges, or other transient phenomena. Working Principle

The basic device of the LTV-817S optoisolator consists of an LED, coupled with a phototransistor, and a power transistor. The LED is driven by an input voltage, which produces light in response to current passing though it. This light is then directed at the phototransistor, which produces an electrical output in response. The power transistor is driven by this output signal, which in turn is used to drive the output circuit. This optoisolator is well suited to driving turn-on and turn-off signals, as well as logic level switching applications.

The device has a very high optical isolation voltage of 4000V (minimum). This allows it to provide a very high degree of insulation between two circuits, enabling reliable signal transmission even in situations where significant electrical interference is present or when one circuit is operating at a high voltage potential.
