Optoisolators are devices used to transmit electrical signals between two isolated circuits while protecting the input side of the circuit from high voltages and currents on the output side. The LTV-844S-TA optoisolator is a member of the family of transistor, photovoltaic output optoisolators. It features high electrical isolation and low and medium input current ranges. The LTV-844S-TA is particularly well suited for use in three or four-wire 4- 20mA loop applications, as well as other industrial electronic applications.

Application Field

The LTV-844S-TA is widely used in the industry due to its three or four-wire 4-20mA loop applications. It also has uses in industrial electronic control systems, digital meter systems II, three-wire type inverters, precision current/voltage loop control and process control systems. This optoisolator is used for signal isolation and short-circuit protection, making it an ideal choice for industrial electronic applications.

Working Principle

The LTV-844S-TA is a transistor, photovoltaic output optoisolator designed with a photodarlington output. It uses a photodiode and a NPN phototransistor to provide isolation between input and output sides. In order for the photodiode to light the phototransistor, the LED current must be at least 500 μA. The maximum LED current is 10 mA. The transistor’s collector-emitter voltage is 15V.

When the LED on the input side is illuminated, the current flow through the photodiode causes a reverse voltage across a depletion layer, this forward biases the junction and causes the phototransistor on the output side to conduct. The output voltage at the collector will be equal to the base supply voltage. The output current of the photodarlington can reach up to 400mA. The isolation voltage between the input and output sides of the optoisolator can reach up to1000V.

The LTV-844S-TA optoisolator is a highly reliable, low-cost and low-power industrial-grade device with excellent performance characteristics.
