The LTV-845S-TA optoisolator features an isolated package with a 0.5" clearance distance between the leads, an integrated halo around the die, shielding the transfer of high voltage from the die leadout to the device terminals and an over-voltage protection structure that can protect the device from up to 10kVolt peaks. The device also has a solid state construction with no mechanical moving parts, ensuring consistent performance over extended operating times.The working principle of the LTV-845S-TA optoisolator is based on a cell-like construction. It contains two parts, a photovoltaic receiver and a transistor output. The structure of the cell is such that light energy is converted to electron flow by the photovoltaic receiver and the current flow is controlled by the transistor output. When a low voltage signal is applied to the receiver, it switches the transistor output on and off. This creates an AC output signal that isolates the low voltage portions of the circuit from the high voltage portions.
