The LTV-847M is an optocoupler which uses a photovoltaic output with a monolithic transistor. The device is intended to use as an isolation barrier between two different circuits to provide electrical isolation between the two. This device is an important component in order to prevent current from one circuit from flowing into the other circuit or to provide isolation from high voltage or high current associated with one of the two circuits.The LTV-847M is designed with an input side which consists of an isolated LED optically coupled to the output transistor side. The LED on the input side will be triggered when a voltage is applied to it and then this light will be transferred to the output side. On the output side there is a photovoltaic cell which will convert the light into a high-efficiency voltage. The voltage will then be further applied to the output transistor, which will amplify the voltage and switch it to two separate current paths in order to provide electrical isolation.This device is used in numerous applications such as industrial automation, instrumentation, and medical equipment. The advantage of LTV-847Ms is that it is highly reliable, with working voltages up to 12V and a high insulation resistance of up to 10e6.
