M-8870-02 Application Field and Working Principle
The M-8870-02 is a universal, advanced telephone line interface device designed for applications such as multi-line telephone answering machines, voice messaging systems, computer control of telephone switching, remote line monitoring, and automated attendant systems. It is an interface technology made up of a series of line interface circuits, designed to interface a variety of local and network analog telecommunication networks to equipment using digital processing technologies such as PC’s and microcontrollers.
This device utilizes a Dialed Digit Detection (DDD) scheme of operation. When configured and operated correctly, the M-8870-02 allows access to line based services such as Call Forwarding, Voice Mail, and Caller ID, as well as transmit multiple voice channels over the same line. The M-8870-02 DDD architecture supports the following:
- Ability to detect dialed digits and Caller ID.
- Ability to detect audible signals such as Ring and Busy signals.
- Ability to detect voice or data transmission.
- Ability to transmit voice and data over the same line.
- Ability to access and use toll-free or credit-card-style services.
- Flexible system design and configuration settings.
To perform its functions, the M-8870-02 utilizes multiple integrated circuit bus interfaces. These bus interfaces, together with a microcontroller, allow the device to monitor, detect, and control analog telephone lines. The device has both an on-chip microcontroller, and multiple integrated circuit devices (e.g., TI Max315, I2C devices). The M-8870-02\'s bus interface has four lines: a master telephone line, a data line, a control line, and a Tone Generation Line. It also has a power source line, a reset line, and a load sensing line.
The data line is the primary interface from the controller to the M-8870-02. This line provides data motion between the M-8870-02 and the controller. The control line is used to control and configure the M-8870-02. The Tone Generation Line is used to generate tones or sequences of tones to the telephone line. The Power Source line is used to provide the necessary power to the M-8870-02. The reset line is used to reset the M-8870-02 when needed. The load sensing line is used to provide external hardware with information regarding the telephone line load.
In order to control the telephone line and detect dialed digits and Caller ID, the M-8870-02 interfaces with the telephone line via an external DTMF receiver. The DTMF receiver is responsible for detecting and decoding dialed digits and Caller ID. The DTMF receiver works in combination with the Tone generator, to detect and decode dialed digits and Caller ID. The M-8870-02 also uses the Tone generator to generate tones to the telephone line when necessary.
The M-8870-02 is compatible with a variety of analog telephone line architectures. It is designed to be used with local area and wide area network telephone systems, such as PBX, digital PABX, and analog PABX. It can also be used with cellular and digital cellular networks, VoIP networks, satellite networks, and other networks that employ voice over IP (VoIP) technology. The M-8870-02 is also designed to work with the proprietary ISI Nway protocol, and can integrate with intelligent voice messaging, call routing, call monitoring, call forwarding, and other related services.
The M-8870-02 is a cost effective and highly reliable interface device suitable for applications requiring universal access to telecommunication networks. Its features and robust design make it a popular choice for applications such as voice messaging systems, computer telephone switching, remote line monitoring, automated attendant systems and other setups requiring telephone line access.
