The materials RFI and EMI - Shielding and Absorbing Materials exist to help protect application systems or technology from a variety of electro-magnetic interference (EMI). One such material, the M4(300)-240X240, is used mainly to shield against high-powered electro-magnetic interference in higher-frequencies, such as those found in the greater 2.4 GHz frequency band. In such situations the M4 di-electric materials offers excellent protection and is often found in electronic systems such as mobile phones.
The M4(300)-240X240 application field, in particular, is widely used in high frequency, high-power electronic systems in areas below 2.4 GHz frequency band. It comes in two formats: First, an electromagnetic shielding material and second, an absorptive material. In terms of their actual shielding and absorptive properties, the M4(300)-240X240 materials offer the best of both worlds. In fact, they can be used in conjunction with each other to ensure optimal protection against EMI from outside sources.
In regards to the M4(300)-240X240 electromagnetic shielding properties, it is composed of three materials, which are: a conductive adhesive sheet, a composite membrane and a second conductive adhesive sheet, sandwiched in between the two membranes and bonded with a special adhesive. This way, it is able to provide strong magnetic shielding performance between 2.0-8.0 GHz frequencies. The second material, the absorptive material, is designed to help absorb incidental electro-magnetic radiation which is not directly related to the function of the item being shielded, even if it is within the specified frequency range. It is also able to absorb electro-magnetic interference from frequencies that are outside of the range of the material itself.
When choosing the M4-240X240 you should be aware that there are differences between the two types of materials. As previously stated, this M4 material is a combination of both SH and EA materials and because of this, you will need to consider what you are shielding and how much effectiveness is necessary for your application. The shielding material, for example, provides a higher overall efficacy than the absorptive material-however, the absorptive material tends to perform better in regards to nearby noise interfering with the system.
In conclusion, the M4(300)-240X240 materials can be used to protect against EMI from various sources and can do it effectively. Its dual material uses ensures that it provides the highest levels of protection both in and out of your designated frequency bands. Depending on your exact requirements, the M4(300)-240X240 may be the perfect choice for your overall application.
